Aurora vs MySQL

Many cloud architects are pondering the Aurora vs MySQL question. What are the differences? What are the advantages and disadvantages of each? Which do I need in my platform?

Aurora is Amazon’s AWS relational database that offers compatibility with MySQL.  Amazon offers Aurora on its RDS platform and boasts that benchmarks show it capable of speeds of up to five times faster than standard MySQL.
