<![CDATA[Do you enjoy the fine art of negotiation?  Do you like testing your skill against a skilled opponent?  Do you want to build your negotiating repertoire and feel you’ve achieved the best deal possible when bargaining?
I do.  Negotiation has always been a pursuit that I have enjoyed and a skill I have sought to improve.  So, when I was in the market for a new audio book to consume during my morning commute and “Never Split the Difference” showed up in my recommendations from Audible, I was intrigued.
The author’s perspective comes from his years of experience in hostage negotiation with the FBI.  He was able to successfully transition the skills learned in these high stakes, no compromise, negotiating scenarios into practical use in the business world.  He uses narratives for his experience in the field to illustrate the tactics and strategies of negotiation.  These stories themselves are highly entertaining and informative, when combined with the instruction, they are invaluable.
Voss has a sense of humor that shows through in the narrative.  You get the real sense that negotiation is fun and rewarding for him.  A teacher that truly enjoys the topic is the best teacher.  The enthusiasm is contagious.  As a reader you get caught up in it and want to run out and see how your skill matches up and how you can improve your results with your new found knowledge.
If you have an interest in improving your negotiating skill set this book will move you towards that goal.  It will also give you insight into some of the negotiating tactics and strategies that may have been employed against you in the past.  Awareness of those will open your eyes to a whole new angle of negotiation.
